FASHION/ The sandals of the moment…
I’ve noticed this style in stores around the world for the last couple of years – from Hull to New York and all over the cool af e-tailer sites, this is what people are going nuts for in the summer.I find this HILARIOUS.
To explain why this is – to me, these will always be known as ‘Menorcan sandals’ favoured by the old men and small children of the Baleric isle. When I working there as a holiday rep in the summer of 03 my friends and I viewed Avarcas (to give them their correct name) as a bit of a novelty item- it was part of the local charm, but they were so kitsch we adore them. I think most of us bought a pair as a momento.

But as we’ve gotten older, we’ve all realised something: these shoes are actually a really great buy. They’re a simply shape, made of real leather and are ridiculously comfy. For about 25€ (£20 ish) that’s pretty darn good. AND, I haven’t even mentioned the soles…
they kinda look like car tires right? That’s because they are! So they’re also great for times where you’re walking a long way, walking over slippery surfaces (holiday promenades are a real bitch for that) and also give a really good grip when you’re driving. Because they’re genuine tire, you won’t have to get a new pair for miles and miles….haha. However, as they come in amazingly large shade of rainbow colours and prints (the glitter ones scream Ibiza and festival vibes) I kind of wanna buy more! So my hot fashion tip for the summer would be – if you’re going to buy this style, invest and make it a decent pIr that will love your feet back. They’re exported to a lot of other Spanish destinations (I spotted them in Marbella) so you can pick them up on your travels, or hit up the Official Avarca website*
*NB – there are other Spanish companies that make these, and the quality does look just as good, but their prices are about double as they’re trading off them being a current trend. Don’t be fooled!
Stay stylish (and super comfy)

FASHION, FOOD & FUN/ What I got for my birthday
It was my birthday on 21 June – yay for getting spoilt, boo for getting older! I actually don’t mind getting older usually but I feel like my new age is just a bit ‘meh’ at the minute, I’m confident it’ll get better though! Here’s a little round up of some of my gifts
Treasure hunt
Yup, that’s right – Mr Alice decided to start my day with a dash around the house to find my gift! It started in our bedroom and ended in our drinks cupboard, and inside the final clue informed me that he would be whisking me away for a spa break. Eek!Rainbow roses
I don’t think I EVER want any other type of flower again!Light box by Ginger Snap
I’ve wanted one of these for ages! I’ve been posting new messages on it every day and uploading them to Twitter.Sleep tee, Boohoo
If you read my Sleepwear Sass post a little while back you’ll know that I’m a bit obsessed with cute sleepy tees and PJs. Definitely think they missed a trick not making this one yellow though? I’ve already seen more that I want from boohoo so im sure I’ll be ordering more soon.Star print lounge suit, Boohoo
It was only after opening this that I realised that my loungewear actually matches my lounge! It’s black and grey with a floral feature wall, I kinda wish it was star print like this sassy-ass set though. This is another type of clothing I’m obsessed with, I’m going to need a whole extra wardrobe for this and my sleepwear pretty soon…Ted Baker cosmetic purse and Cerruti 1881
I’m going on holiday again soon so this wipe clean pouch is perfect for keeping cosmetic bits in my hand luggage, and this my fave evening perfume that is the perfect size (under 100ml) to travel with it.Small paella pan (similar here)
Bless Mama Alice – after spending a week with me in Marbella eating paella or tapas almost every night, she thought I should try and have a go at making it myself! If anyone has a great healthy recipe be sure to let me know(preferably without calamari or prawns)Rock on Ruby pins colada backpack
ROR’s summer range is ridiculous cute – pastel shades mixed with neon pops mixed with quotes from summertime classics*. As soon as I saw this this bag I knew it would be perfect for holidays and for the gym and dropped a LOT of hints to make sure I got it!*this quote is from Escape (The Pina Colada song) if you’ve never heard it I strongly advise you have a cheeky listen here. WARNING: it’s a catchy lil tune!
Rock on Ruby yes I like pina coladas tote bag
I really this bag as well – I used a tote to take extra bits to work and in case I pick up any shopping whilst I’m out and about. The fact that it’s candy pink and matches my backpack is merely a beautifully coordinated bonus.
Marks & Spencer Rosado cava brut
Cava has always been my favourite of the sparkling beverages, and in the UK I’m yet to find a better one than M&S. Mr Alice and I bought a cases of the medium brut (green bottle, dark green label) for our wedding reception and I’ve adored it ever since.Pandora passport pendant charm

My very thoughtful sister in laws remembered a conversation in which I said I wanted this or the little airplane so suprised me with this. I only have one more space on my bracelet now, wonder what will complete it…Aaaaaaand one final thing that my friend Sarah bought me on the day – we said we’re going out for lunch, but ended up with THIS… Stay stylish,
And Furley and Co. even put a candle in it for me, definitely a change from the usual birthday cake!I had a lovely day off work and being chill so it was a good day and exactly what I needed.
Thanks for reading; there’s lots more fashion, beauty and fun on the way very soon.

Say Whaaaaat…?/ Things I’ve learned being 32
I’m on the precipice of entering my next year, so thought I would share some things that the past year has taught me.
I can add value
Since starting my current job, I’ve been responsible for implemented new initiatives and contributing heavily towards my teams ideas that had lead to some pretty successful outcomes. In other jobs I’ve had I’ve been consistently shot down or haven’t felt comfortable in giving opinions because the atmosphere has been a little intimidating. It’s lovely being told that you have added value to others, and I now really believe people when they tell me this.Skirt Pretty Little Thing/ Boots EGO
This was proved when I graduated last year. I spent a lot of time as a mature student feeling quite inferior to my younger peers who all seemed so much cleverer than I was. However, we all stood side by side having gained very similar academic scores, so ther must somehow rattling around in there! (This is the actual cap toss from my graduation, see if you can spot me. Hit: I’m to the left of the town crier)
I can accomplish things I set my mind to

I’m not sure that I have mentioned this yet, but I miraculously passed my driving test in April! It was a big deal as I’d unsuccessfully taken lessons as a teenager so had resigned myself to being someone who simply wasn’t meant to be a driver as. I finally caved and decided to try again for my grandparents – they’re both in varying states of poor health and won’t be driving much longer, as I’m the closest relative geographically I felt I should be able to step up and help them wherever I could. After all, they’ve done it for me my whole life.
I didn’t want anyone to know I was doing it (Mr Alice and my grandparents knew) in case it went the same way again, but I found that I was able to master skills I’d previously felt were impossible…just I thought about my degree. But I figured, if I can work hard and get a good degree as an adult, surely I could do this too? And I did.
Bomber Missy Empire
Let me explain this a little bit more. I’m quite an opinionated person, and I have been known to suffer with a bit of ‘foot in mouth’ syndrome. I am am and occasionally still do, but in the last few months I have FINALLY started to learn to pick my battles a little more carefully and not let everything out. Sometimes, to keep the peace and enjoy the bigger picture, it’s better to stay quiet about some things. I don’t think this means I’m compromising in my sense of self, I think it means I’m growing, which I’m really proud of.
So the overall message for 32 has to be be this: I CAN, I DID, and I WILL. Not too shabby for a few months work right?
I’m hoping that 33 will bring more happy memories, more accomplishments, and more blogging capers. I’ve been VERY quiet on the posting front for a good few months and I am desperately hoping to change this and become my organised and inspired blogging self. Hope you stick around to see what happens.
Stay stylish,
J 😘xx

FASHION/ The white stuff
If you were a kid in the 90s like me, you may now be humming “oh oh oh-oh oh, the right stuff” after reading the title of this post (bit of NKOTB appreciation there) if you didn’t and have no idea what I’m talking about, you’ll hopefully just think it’s the witty play on words I meant it to be!
I’m so obsessed with this white blazer (which is the same as the Balmain-esquire one I wore in black last week) as I usually live in trainers out of work it’s quite nice to run around in an outfit that feels a bit smarter during the day. I’m not sure how practical wearing all white errrrthang is for my day to day stuff- being an aunt to 2 under-2s and a very excitable doggy make this a challenge, alongside the fact that I’m so damn clumsy! Next time I wear it I’ll probably go monochrome and wear black skinnies so that the blazer will pop a bit more
(Little side note- I know I shoot against this door a lot, but I feel like the colour sets off some of my outfits so much better! I also notice that a lot of local bands do their promo shots against it, and LOCO magazine use it often.nbut I was the first!)
I’m also tempted to say that I wish I’d worn more of stiletto court shoe with this outfit too, but I got excited when I saw the pretty sunshine so out came the barely theres instead!
Jacket Pretty Little Thing/Tee Pretty Little Thing/Jeans Topshop/Sandals New Look (now a bargain £13 in the sale!)/ Shades Karen Mille SS’10 (SS16 version here)/ Watch Marc Jacobs
I’m currently heading to London to shoot my final piece for the Rimmel/Mail Online Volume Colourist cap pain with some other babein’ bloggers – make sure you follow me on #snapchat (thisisjennychat) and Twitter for behind the scenes action.

BEAUTY/ summer hair

As I’m getting ready to enter yet ANOTHER new phase in my life, I decided changing up my look a little may be in order. I’ve been thinking about going red for a while, but I’ve put it off because I wasn’t sure I was ready to commit to avoiding certain colours. In the end, as my first summer holiday is coming up I thought I’d give it a go!And who better to help a girl out than the lovely Chelsea; she ain’t called @hairguruchels for nuthin’! I decided to go for something more subtle, as it walks a better line between cool and professional to fit in with my current work environment. It looks great when it catches the light but still office appropriate! Thank you Chels.
My next question now though is, will I dare to let the auburn flame burn brighter next time…?
Stay Stylish,
J 😘xx
