  • FASHION/ LOTD

Now I have a job again I’ve been experimenting with work outfits that suit both the business environment I’m working in and my fashion-ey side. So I’ve started with garment shape – cigarette trousers and a silky fit tee, which was kindly sent for me to try out courtesy of new fashion brand LOTD in celebration of their collaboration with #towie fashionista Ferne McCann.I’ve had the top for a few weeks – my original intention was to style it with the matching shorts when I was on holiday but they didn’t arrive in time…But I think this worked just as well in a different way

For once the sunnies aren’t meant to be part of the outfit – I’d been at #LadbrokesLadiesDay until really late the day before and wasn’t feeling the best when I got up, I wasn’t wearing make up and basically didn’t want to scare anyone!

These trousers are a really comfy crepe and an absolute bargain at £12 (that’s full price!) I’m glad I bought them in camel too. I probably wouldn’t have worn these as part of office attire as they’re a bit delicate, but I’ve hardly bought any work stuff as yet so have been cobbling outfits together. In my opinion – if it’s monochrome, it’s fine by me!

  • Say Whaaat…?? NO Shame in my Game

Over the weekend I had a slightly uncomfortable encounter. It started with deciding to try out my new extreme ripped jeans (not the ones in this pic, you’ll see them another time) to be brave and push my boundaries. However whilst I was wearing them…first, an older lady looked at me quizzically and started muttering unfavourable comments under her breath as she walked next to me. Shortly after, another girl who looked about my age but was a different dress size to me proceeded to give me the most obvious look of disgusted contempt I’ve ever seen as she walked past.

Both of these women’s reactions initially made me really cross – fair enough if they don’t like what I’m wearing, but did my outfit REALLY warrant such an overtly negative reaction? Nothing was hanging out that shouldn’t have been so it was a perfectly acceptable daytime look. So what if they wouldn’t have worn it; I wasn’t exactly crazy about their  outfits either but they didn’t see me openly judging them!

After I cooled down and had a bit more of a think about it; I decided I felt more pity than anger for these women. When I wear clothes I have fun- I enjoy trying different styles and looking for inspiration around me. I don’t profess to always get if right but I do make sure I feel good in what I’m wearing whenever I step outside the house. I suspect these women felt the need to judge because they saw me as different and maybe a bit braver than they would ever hope to be themselves. They’re the ones who are missing out on the experience of trying something new and realising how good it can feel when that works out and you look great. More to the point, women should support each other, not tear away at each other’s sense of self for no discernible reason. That’s never okay.

And that is why I stand by this quote 100%

I’ll forever wear what I want and, as long as I’m happy with that, that’s all I care about.

  • FASHION/ Celeb Style Round Up

I’m so glad I was right last week when I predicted Fashion Week month would throw up some ultra fab #celebstyle – so far I’ve been beside myself with #NYFW and #LFW is looking pretty spectacular already.

    NYC be Jumpin’

Serious – how HOT HAWT HAUTE are these women though?!?! The perfect combo over covered in with a hint of boob, and I’d forgotten how much I adored navy for this time of year. I’m definitely pining to go back to NYC now…steal Kloe’s style in this beaut Top Shop number.

     Dark, but not Moody

That said, these gals do look a little bit moody! I think it’s more of a “we’re looking good and we damn well know it” face actually. I adore a bit of classic Fashion Week black (hence why I did head to toe black at the last LFW). Awesome looks ladies!

     Wrapping up for Aurumn
It’s time for transitional dressing…but since the weather has been ridiculous lately it’s either a dark palette of summer cool a la Mollie, or button up cosy like Mylene. I’d totally wear both of these – this Quiz blazer will help any sassy black look pop like Ms King, Mylene’s cape is from her own #Littlewoods collection here.

    Working that FRow

Ridiculously simple yet chic and beautiful looks from these former #towie beauties, absolutely perfect for #LFW great muted tones and shapes of each piece. ADORE. I’ve found a great copy of Sam’s dress by Boohoo and these culottes by Pretty Little Thing  (which I own; stay tuned for a potential rip off look) will help replicate Lucy’s outfit.

     Jenner Watch
What’s fashion week without one now right? Kylie just had fun with fashion and will try everything which is the part of style that I enjoy most. In one week she’s done ghetto-preppy with those fabulous Gold Nike Air Max, cute lil white skater and cheeky cut out top complete with exposed bra. Moving on to sexy-ethereal mermaid (which can be created using the cute Boohoo coord) and finishing with ultra chic all black black cool n oversized Vera Wang…boom.

Thanks for reading, don’t forget to catch up with my latest style post here as well.

Fashion, Food and Fun/ I See Girls

I always enjoy it when I get to do a post that includes all three of my passions! And this one about my VIP trip to #LadbrokesLadiesDay at Doncaster Racecourse last week means that all of them are on POINT.

I’ve been a big fan of this racecourse since I visited last year – its really clean, has loads of places to eat/drink and good undercover space if the weather isn’t so good (though you’ll see by my pics that it was glorious)    My lil’ bag of race day essentials courtesy of the gorgeous girlies from Branded3   I immediately found my Scholl Party Feet a saving grace, as I don’t wear very high heels as much as I used to I can’t stand up in them for too long!

    FOOD/ Conduit Restaurant

This is at the top of the main grandstand with a great view of the finish line and people watching (as you’ll notice from my first two pics). I’ve been lucky enough to have eaten at some really great restaurants in my time, however I don’t think many of them would live up to the ultra attentive service we got from the restaurant manager James, we were all very impressed! The staff were super accommodating about taking our orders when WE were ready and bringing our food when WE wanted it; none of that rushed ‘get it out, clear the table’ malarkey. And the food was pretty yummy too- I just didn’t quite get a shot of my dessert because my camera was full (rather fittingly, so was I)

    FASHION/ My Ladies Day #ootd

I decided I wanted to wear something that was simple and flattering. Oh, and something that would match my new GOSH Velvet Touch Matt Lipstick

Forever obsessed with sunnies   I couldn’t decide between black or white accessories, so I did both. These snakeskin beauties will go with errrrthang.
This dress was perfect – it fitted my ‘simple yet flattering’ requirements with the shape and the ruching, and the material was great for moving around/sitting/eating.   It looks very like my graduation dress in a different colour, until I turn around and display even more fabulous ruching all the way up
I may have temporarily ‘borrowed’ this bag…it just looked soooo good with my outfit!   Shoes AX Paris/ Dress  Bag Skinnydip x Felicity Hayward by ASOS

     FUN/ …What Else?

My particular fun started at 9.30am on the train from Hull with my girl Charlotte courtesy of a couple of (fun sized) bottles of fizz and some long overdue girly chatter. It’s totally fine to enjoy a couple of glasses at that time on race days…oh wait, I said bottles didn’t I, oops!

I’m usually fairly lucky when I bet on horses, apparently my luck has run out for the time being though, boooooo. Well, I suppose I did bet on one called ‘Canny Style’ but really, how could I NOT?? Then the prosecco/Pimms really started flowing and our ‘sultry’ poses came ouuuut!

The lovely Holly who’s also the co-founder of my fave Rock on Ruby. FYI: she’s not really that short, I was standing on a higher step       My only regret is that I didn’t get some more pictures of everybody together, damn you camera memory! If you’d like to see more shots from the VIP bloggers you can see them on Twitter and Instagram under the hashtag #LadbrokesLadiesDay

I’m definitely looking forward to heading to Doncaster again next year, thanks to the restaurant staff, Branded3 and Ladbrokes I had an absolute ball!

  • Say Whaaat…?? Addressing the Work/Life/Blog Balance

I’ve just started the next phase in my life – having finished uni I’ve just started my first full time graduate job. I’m really happy about getting back into the world of work and feeling like I’m making a contribution again, but at the same time it throws up a lot of potential issues in other areas of my life. Well, not issues per se, more like ‘points to ponder’.

Whilst I’ve been at uni I’ve managed to:

    – lose weight and get a grip of my diet and exercise/activity (pretty much, as you’ll remember from another recent post that’s kind of slipped lately)

    – start my blog and have time to plan and make its content come to life

    – have a weekday social life: coffee with old friends on a Monday, shopping and lunch in Leeds on a Friday (obviously not all the time, I was a semi broke-ass student after all!)

    – run a home: washing kept on top off, everything fairly tidy all week and meals cooked from scratch most nights.

    – spend time with Mr Alice during school holidays and just chill out together

    The current ‘points to ponder’:

    – being in an office environment will probably not give me the opportunity to be as active, no more morning power walks for me

    – If I forget to plan my meals the night before, I may only have less healthy options to grab during the day.

    – can I be bothered to properly cook when I get home at 6ish, or will that turn into a grab ‘n go sitch too??

    – if I do online shopping, where will I have it delivered?? (My office is buried in the very heart of a massive building)

    – when will I shoot blog pictures, style outfits, or see my blogging buddies?

These points may be very placed very firmly under the heading of First World Problems, nevertheless they’re important to me and I need to somehow figure out how to make everything work.

So over the next few weeks my aim is to become my usual organised self and come up with some solutions, which I may share if anyone feels it may be useful. Likewise, many one else who’s been in a similar sitch as welcome to share with me as well

    Wish me luck!

    J 😘xx
