And just like that, August is over. Taylor’s right; it slipped away like a moment in time, but very BUSY moment!
Holidays, weekend breaks, questionable TV choices and more outfits than I probably needed…
So grab yourself a brew (or an ice coffee as we still have two and a bit more weeks of British summer. A point I will fight everyone on, no matter what the weather outside is doing) while I chat to you about it.
Wearing
I’ve mainly been living in holiday and summer outfits this month and I am not ready to say goodbye to them just yet! so I’m very much still mentally on a Greek island, even if the skies are very grey here in East Yorkshire.
The vast majority of my holiday wardrobe was actually made up of Vinted finds, including a few repurchases of clothes I’d previously owned but needed in a different size. Now I know what I’m doing, I’m quite enjoying finding things second hand rather than buying everything new. If I could only transfer these skills from online into the charity shops I’d be unstoppable….
I was also influenced by TikTok to try Archie’s flip flops. I’ll be honest, I wasn’t initially sold. They took a little bit of breaking in and I was wondering what all the fuss was about. But now – I get it. They’re so comfortable and I’m officially on the hype train.
For ‘research purposes’ obviously, I also bought my first pair of Havaianas (I know, I’m a bit late to that particular party!)
Again, they took a little bit of breaking in but once they did, they’re really comfy too.
One thing I have realised this month is that my wardrobe has a fairly significant gap when it comes to jeans and shoes. I have none of one and very few of the other. Apparently my current footwear strategy is trainers, flip flops and a couple of pairs of stompy boots.
Watching
Mamma Mia: As is my annual summer tradition, I’ve watched a LOT of Mamma Mia this month. Obviously I watched the first film while in Skiathos (twice, at 2 different bars) given that I was literally in the place where some of it was filmed. But we also got the inflatable screen out at home and watched the second film. Because if there’s one thing I’m going to do as a Greece-loving girly, it’s commit to a theme.
Scream – the TV series (season 3) I’ve spent YEARS trying to track this series down online (thank you Tubi and my VPN) so naturally I had very high hopes. They were dashed very quickly. It was, quite frankly, the biggest let down. I waited all that time for THAT?!
Ann Droid: I was sceptical about whether I’d be into this style of show, but I enjoyed it. I also really liked the cast, which definitely helped.
Drag Race Down Under: keeping me entertained with all the camp and glamour a gal could want – enjoying the series and a great cast. Michael for the win, obviously.
Doing
Back to Skiathos: a strong start by heading off on my summer holiday in the 1st of the month (usually we go at the end of August so it’s thrown me out of kilter a bit). I spent the trip doing all the things I enjoy doing most: eating, drinking, exploring new areas, the beach and deciding what to wear for all of the above.
I filmed a full series of videos for Tik Tok and Instagram showing what I got up to, where I ate and what I wore. There’s now quite a lot of Skiathos content over on my socials if you fancy virtually coming along with me.
Spa Break: I spent a weekend at Waterton Park, treating my sister-in-law for her milestone birthday. It’s a beautiful location and we had a lovely time, although there were a couple of little niggles with the overall experience (I did a review video if you fancy a watch).
Blackpool baby! I rounded off August with a good old-fashioned British staycation – complete with fish and chips, arcades, comedy, afternoon tea in the Tower Ballroom and, perhaps most importantly, seeing the absolute icon that is Jane McDonald live at the Winter Gardens.
I have not officially ticked “weekend breaks” off my 2026 bingo card!
So, what’s happening in September?
Currently I have precisely NOTHING in the offing. Not one thing.
So I suppose the next item on the list is making some plans…
In the news
Honestly, I haven’t seen anything too decisive in the news this month that has made me want to comment.
Maybe September will bring me something I actually have an opinion on?
