  • FASHION/ A walk amongs the flowers

This is definitely not winter floral…ain’t nuthon’ moody ’bout these flowers, they be shinin’ bright! I’ve had this fab lil’ co-ord all summer but kept forgetting to get a picture, I think it’s fine to post it now summer’s moving into Autumn as it’ll still totally work because of the dark background and thicker fabric. Clearly on these pics you can see I need to be less self conscious and try and learn how to strike a decent pose! Any suggestions will be welcomed on social media #ChannelYourInnerVogue

I still can’t believe I found these items from two different brands! Both also have the look in white (the PLT version comes with a skirt so opens up even more styling possibilities!) The great thing about these pieces is that they can be dressed up and down to suit daytime and evening looks with a quick change of accessories – I’ve just kept it simple with a pair of my fave little block heels to let the florals do the talking and put my hair in a baby bun to keep it casual. A change to a sleeker heel would glam it up or a cool pair of hi-tops could make it über funky. I’d probably resist adding a necklace as the detail would be hidden, but as with any two piece the set can be worn with other pieces and the accessory pot is then blown wide open! I could totally see the trousers teamed with a white shirt and some gold jewellery. Hmmmm….

This week’s style round up on Sunday may be a bit of a looooong post…as well as my fave catwalk looks from New York Fashion Week (I’m already peeing my pants based in the pics I’ve seen!) I’m sure there’ll be some fabulous FRow looks as well as other celeb looks this week I’m totally feelin’. May I propose it could be a fabulous alternative to the Sunday papers over lunch?!?!

  • FASHION/ Here Comes the Bride… again!

2014 is apparently the year for celebs to get hitched! Congratulations to all the happy couples, but here are a few more of my faves

    1- Gabrielle Union

    IMG_5191.JPG

She sexy and she’s cute, she’s popular to boot….anyone from my generation will totally get the reference, for anyone else you NEED to watch Bring it On! This beautiful woman looks exactly the same as she did in the film 14yrs ago, she’s in her 40s now and looked about 21 back then anyway! Her bridal look is fresh, flawless and effortless ethereal. Boom.

    2- Ashlee Simpson

    IMG_5201.JPG

I’ve always enjoyed Ash being the antithesis of her big sis by embracing a rocky/boho style, however I could perhaps imagine that marrying the son of one of the World’s biggest diva’s could be a bit daunting. Yet I doubt I’ve seen a more relaxed bride, even in the face or rain when she’s about to walk down the aisle she’s beaming and having a chat on the phone! I really like the wavy boho hair and lace fabric coupled with the more traditional design of the dress. I almost feel like it’s a bit Middleton-esque but I think I may spy a slightly higher hem at the front which gives it a touch more of a fashion edge (whilst giving her the opportunity to showcase her sparkly wedding shoes!)

    3 – Jessica Simpson

    IMG_5198.GIF

Both Simpson girls got married this summer (expensive time for their poor dad!) and as I’ve just said their styles are poles apart, yet equally as gorgeous on the big days. Jess’ look is sooo super glam – I’d almost say she could have taken off the veil and worn her gown to a red carpet event, but the intricate design looks a little like lace work and makes it feel bridal with bling. It goes really well with the moody ambiance of the decor that can be seen in this shot. Good job Mrs J.

    4 – Naya Rivera Dorsey

    IMG_5200.JPG

I’m a big Naya fan (in both my capacity as a Gleek and in her pursuits of fashion and music) and lace gowns so these pics excited me soooo much! She’s nailed combining traditional wedding attire with retaining a sense of her own personality in her look – on the face of it you can see a grand lace creation with a long veil and sleeves, very traditional. You also noticing the subtle cleavage dusting neckline, wide open back and sparkly hair pin. Very Naya. No going all Lima Heights with this look honey!

All of these fabulous ladies are making me desperately want to renew my wedding vows so that I can wear a pretty dress, it wasn’t 100% with my look or pictures on the big day so there’s lots of reasons to do it all over again I think (just need to convince Mr Alice now, help appreciated) There is one more wedding that happened this summer that I’d absolutely kill to see the pictures of…step forward Mrs Cheryl Fernandez-Versini! Sadly I don’t think we will be doing for a while, if at all, sob!

What has been your favourite bridal look this year? Comment or get in touch and let me know.

  • FASHION/ Inspired by… with Little Bird Boutique

    IMG_5027.PNG

I’ve mentioned an upcoming collaboration in a few previous posts, and now here it is….introducing Little Bird Boutique! They’re based near my home in Hull (City of Culture 2017) but have a gorgeous website so you can order their pieces from anywhere! This will be the first of many guest LBB posts which will feature gorgeous glam looks and celeb inspired styles.

Kicking off the celeb looks is one of my favourites – Khloe K. She has a great mix of casual and super glam style, and it’s the super glam style I wanted to recreate. Khloe usually favours figure hugging shorter styles like these

I did two versions of my Khloe style

I wanted to try and embrace the funky- fierce side of this dress so teamed it with my brand new shoe boots and a bold statement necklace to toughen it up a little. Shoe boots are huge for this season and these were the biggest bargain at £16! I’ve worn them to death already, I’ve seen so many pairs on the high street and honestly these look as good as any more expensive pair I’ve seen. The scruffy top knot also gives it a less polished edge but the bright pink lip screams “I’m a siren, mwah!” (Well, that was the aim at least so hopefully it does!)

I wanted to take the second look as glam as I could possibly manage, and my recent visit to the super glam Liverpool seemed the perfect place to do that! I actually wore this dress at Alma de Cuba that was featured in my last post. This time I paired the dress with a more sparkly, delicate statement necklace and pointed court stilettos. For the hair I directly channelled Khloe as she’s been wearing her hair half up/half down a lot recently (very J-Lo/Ariana Grande) but I kept my version like straight where she usually has a wave in hers (my hair is ridiculous straight and attempting a curl would have lasted well for a glam look!). I upped the ante with my eye make up and made a little more intense so kept my lips glossy and sheer with tinted Vaseline, I adore a colour pop lip but I’m still very partial to a glossy look on occasion. I finished off with a box clutch that was printed with fashion magazine covers, the perfect accessory for a blogger! The picture of it with the cocktail was the one I couldn’t load on Sunday’s post so you can feast your fashiony eyes on it with my Brazilian cocktail.

  • FOOD/ Alma de Cuba (2014)

The tagline for CuriousAlice is “Fashion. Food. Fun. What else?” Food is one of my passions so I always intended to incorporate it at some point but hadn’t found the right fit…until now. Alma de Cuba is a restaurant/bar inside an old church in the centre of Liverpool and is without a doubt one of the most beautiful venues I’ve ever had the pleasure to dine in! And it just kept getting better (apologies for the picture quality – the gorgeous moody ambience didn’t mix well with any of the three cameras I had with me!)

    IMG_5015.JPG

    To Kick Things Off…

    IMG_4942.JPG

    IMG_4943.JPG

In a South American themed venue, what else would you start with except a Caipirinha?? Mine was strawberry and coconut flavoured and was delicious (although perhaps better suited to an after dinner drink, a fruity cocktail would’ve been superb). I took the cutest pic of it next to my vogue box clutch (coming soon in another post) but the damn thing won’t load, so you’ll just have to imagine the frothy creamy pink greatness yourselves! To start we ordered goats cheese fondue and roasted red pepper soup which were equally as yummy.

    Moving On…

    IMG_4939.JPG

    IMG_4941.JPG

    IMG_4944.JPG

Main course – Wow! I had honey and pepper sticky ribs with coconut rice, Mr Alice ordered Hawaiian chicken skewers that came with the same coconut rice and a side of skin on fries (our personal fave). I don’t know what else to say except the variety of tastes at our were immense! Portion sizes were very generous and the finder bowl at the end was a great and much needed touch after those ribs.

    The Grand Finale…

    IMG_4940.JPG

    IMG_4937.JPG

This marvellous looking creation is a coffee! A Cafe Cubano to be precise – a wonderful mixture of steamed milk, coffee, spices and rum topped off with a fruity biscotti. I’m a long time fab of liquor coffees and this one rocked my world.

    IMG_4933.JPG

    IMG_4938.JPG

These desserts were so nice I almost forgot to take pics (hence the bit marks, hehe). Mr Alice had the chocolate orange tart with contrieau ice cream, which was light and delicately flavoured and a perfect finish to his meal as he was getting a little bit full. My beauty was a Malteser parfait. I had one of those ‘just when I thought this meal couldn’t get any better’ moments…one of THE best desserts to ever meet my tastebuds!! I had to sip the shot before each mouthful to enhance the flavour and it clearly did so. We had a custom made chocolate parfait at our wedding breakfast which was exceedingly good, but this creation was on a whole other level.

We spent time in the bar downstairs too which was had a cool party vibe (the DJ had just started pumping the choons as it was after 10 on a weekend night), having visited a couple more bars afterwards we concluded it was easily the best choice in this area for a good time (and a good selection of rum if you’re partial as we are!). The only words of caution would be this – watch out for the floor. The floor is immaculately shiny and quite slippy which I found out to my detriment when I went to push myself away from the table and my foot slipped and slammed into the solid wood partition 😦 …still in pain as I type 2 days on but didn’t kill my buzz.

I had a fantastic experience – if you’re in Liverpool and don’t make it here, you’re missing out! http://www.alma-de-cuba.com

Once again apologies for the picture quality, it really doesn’t do the place justice! But onto more exciting things to come from next week on CuriousAlice – more winter florals, college/uni wardrobe staples, some super glamorous evening wear and so much more (including more food, yay!). Get in and let me know what you think of CuriousAlice’ food posts!
