Fashion & Food / Sunday Style & Mill House Lunches
Recently myself and Mr Alice did one of our favourite things – put on something nice and ago out for a proper Sunday lunch. I’m lucky that he’s (almost) as obsessed with food as I am!
When I go to a restaurant for lunch I feel it’s important to strike a good smart/casual balance balance- you want to be comfy as you’ll be eating a LOT, but you’re not at a pub so a t shirt doesnt really cut it. Easy breezy choice- fitted jumper dress and long boots topped off with my fave camel overcoat. Sorted.
*FYI this wasn’t me trying to do some kind of coy glance; I was laughing at the people staring puzzled as Mr Alice took the pic
Dress Top Shop/ Boots Ego/ Coat MissguidedThe restaurant itself, Mill House in Skidby, is somewhere I’d class as a ‘go to’ for us as a couple: most birthdays and anniversaries have been spent there over the last few years. All of their menus are delicious but we mostly have their Lazy Sunday menu which changes every month. Behold:
Starter- Salmon, sweet potato and orange fishcake
Main Course- 12hr Roasted topside of beef
Dessert- Rhubarb crumble
all yummy as always; my only gripe is that they keep seating us at the back of the restaurant where it’s quiet when everyone else is upfront amongst the chatter…How pretty does Skidby Mill look in the autumn sunshine??
Is anyone else as obsessed with Sunday Linch as I am, and what would you wear? Thanks for reading, Stay Stylish

FASHION/ What we wear, how we feel and what it says
This week I read an interesting article in The Guardian (yup that’s right, I’m THAT well read now I’m a graduate!) that says it take a potential client a mere 7 seconds to determine whether someone looks professional and approachable- Workplace dress codes are ultimately a form of branding because “taking pride in your appearance proves you care about your career.”
This happens to be something I really believe in – as shallow as it may sound, you can’t see a person’s competence or a great personality across a crowded room, but you can see how they’ve chosen to present themselves to the outside world. Whether we like it or not, a lot of us do give people’s look a once over (some more subtly than others) so this is first judgement made about you.
With this in mind I thought I’d really put my own beliefs to the test- document everything I wear during the working week, how I felt and what I wanted it to say. *FYI: These selfies are rubbish because it’s not dark when I leave the house so there’s no natural light!*
Monday
Vibe: It’s Monday and I want to feel cool and wear my fave colour palette. I felt comfortable & stylish, leading to a productive start to the working week.Hat Dorothy Perkins, similar here/ Top Primark/ Sleeveless Jacket In the Style/ Jeggings /Boots New Look
Tuesday
Vibe: Sassy and autumnal. Wednesday
Vibe: it’s hump day and I’ve run out of fash steam a bit already! I felt simple yet professional. I got a little boost around lunchtime when a colleague from another office stopped me and said “you look nice; but then you always do” ahhhRoll Neck New Look/ Trousers Pretty Little Thing/ Shoe Boots Dorothy Perkins
Thursday
Vibe: back to sass; last day of the working week (FYI- the roll neck is grey, pinafore is black with hot ounk/white check). I felt a bit chilly without tights, to be honest! But kinda Clueless ‘n cute; the girl in the office next door to me said she loved the look.Roll Neck New Look/ Pinafore Dorothy Perkins (sold out online, other designs here)/ Boots, Sole Wish as before
Friday
Vibe: the weekend has started and I want to be all kinds of cosy. I felt cosy and relaxed- add in a lovely cup of tea and daytime TV followed by coffee and shopping with Mama Alice and I’d nailed it!Jumper Top Shop (sold out in Pink, shop it in mint here)/ Jeans Top Shop/ Shoe Boots Primark
Saturday
Vibe: I want to go casual, but like sassy casual, because I’m going out into town and people I know may see me!Bodysuit Top Shop/Jeans Top Shop/ Boots New Look as before/ Coat Missguided
Result? I’m very aware of what I’m wearing and how I want it to make me feel, which definitely impacts on how well my day can go. But then, I knew that already- if you feel you look on the outside, it can be hugely impactful to the stuff that’s happening on the inside. And, as someone who sometimes doesn’t have the most pleasant things going on inside, that’s a really important tool to have. Call it vain, self absorbed, whatever you want, it’s my armour and I own that.

FASHION/ It was Curious Alice rocking mustard, in the street, with the sass
Do you like my witty Cluedo inspired post title? Well, im impressed with it!
I’m OBSESSED with this waterfall coat- really, how I could I not be?? Since buying it I’ve had people stop me in the street to say how much they love it and how chic it looks…not bad considering it was a £25 impulse buy. I also have it another colour (shock of all horrors right) which I may share with you sometime soon.
These boots are real leather and a steal for under £40; I wear them allllll the time
I feel like the rest of the outfit is kind of ‘sassy spy’ with the all black/sleek/roll neck – Bond seems to wear a roll neck a lot in his down time so it much be true, hehe. Coat Miss Pap/ Polo Neck New Look/ Jeggings Miss Pap/ Boots New Look
I’d really like the title of this post to start some kinda fashion-Cluedo trend, sompleeeaaaassssse somebody pick it up pick it up pick it up!

FASHION/ Cool for the summer, cosy for A/W
Ok so it’s not super chilly yet, but that doesn’t mean fleecy lined coats are out…just go sleeveless! I was super snugly during my weekend shopping trip in this one, the perfect cover up for a simple outfit.
These heels are a great size and pretty comfy once they’re broken in…of course, I have them in another colour (which I’m sure you’ll see soon)
I thought this was a cute boho hat, Mr Alice felt it was more summery…Mother Nature tried to steal it in a fierce updraft
A simple bit of lace up detail adds that extra lil’ something
Both materials on the jacket are ridiculously soft – I’m still really vibing on multiple textures, it just makes outfits a bit more interesting sometimes. I’m sooooo into camel as an Autumn colour because it tones in really nicely with with nature, but I definitely will NOT be kicking around in any leaves with boots I want to stay this colour!

FASHION, FOOD, BEAUTY & LIFESTYLE/ October Round Up
Greetings on #Halloween – I don’t normally do these sorts of posts but I thought I’d give it a try since it’s been a busy month!
Brucie’s first birthday
My stunningingly beautiful nephew (Bruce isn’t his real name, that’s just his nickname from when my sister in law was pregnant) turned 1 and was a very spoilt little man. Of course, the funky-ass shirt at the front of the pic is from me! I’m very excited that I’ll be getting a baby niece over the festive period too, pink and frilly things ahoy!Buying new clothes
I’ve been doing a LOT of shopping to get new stuff for A/W as well as for my new job- combining my style with a more professional atmosphere has been interesting but I think I’m getting there! This was just a cheeky pick took on my walk to work in a risky double mustard combo – 1 of my fave colours for the season so I thought why not?!? Hair-education
I spent some time with Rick Roberts learning about new ways to style my hair and give it more oomph – you can read a little more about that in my #TOTALHAIRCONFIDENCE postEating out
Also another thing that’s happened a lot this month, possibly a little too much dare I say…Mr Alice and I have started a new Friday evening ritual – go straight out for dinner after work to wind down from the week and get the weekend started right, there may be a cheeky glass of red involved too! Our favourite place this month has been Sleepers which does mainly European inspired dishes…lots of yummy choices for me then!Trying dungarees
I bought these beauties as a fashion experiment and am now OBSESSED; I got so many lovely compliments wearing them…look out for them in their own post soon!
Finding cut lil’ home touches
I’ve been in my house for 5yrs and it’s STILL nowhere near being finished…but it’s a little more homely now thanks to some cute touches! These wooden letters by Matalan are to hang in my bedroom. The Bath & Body Works candle is another souvenir from #Vegas Planning new adventures
Mama Alice and I are planning a ‘girls on tour’ getaway for 2016 to Marbella baby! This is Jenny, her BFF (we used to be Big Jen and Little Jen when I was younger) who’s joining us with her eldest daughter, and this is the only pic I can share from our night of planning…we’re all a bit crazy when we get together, watch out Marbs!Writing for Loco
Following in my girl Alex who wrote her trend report in the previous issue of Loco Magazine I wrote a piece for the Health & Wellbeing issue featuring some of my favourite brands – including Cocoa Brown and Rock on Ruby. You can read the full issue here. Thanks for reading, and enjoy your weekend!
