  • BLOGGING/ The Liebster Award

    IMG_7531.PNG

Two awards nominations over one weekend, eek! I’ve seen the Liebster award pop up on some of my fave blogs so I’m completely thrilled to add this to my collection with my ‘The Lovely Blog Award’. Thank you to Ria at dribblesandgiggles.wordpress.com for nominating me – one of my new blogging pals who also seems to double as Superwoman being a mum to a 1yr old whilst continuing to get an education! The blogging community has shown me that there are still people in the world that are nice and supportive of others, and that makes me even happier that I’m now a part of that.

    Ria’s Questions to Me:

1- What Was the Last Book You Read, Did You Enjoy it?
Im currently reading The Leftovers by Tom Perrotta (which has also just been made into a TV series being screened on Sky 1) as one of the books that I’m writing my dissertation about. I’m enjoying it a lot more than I thought, kind of forgetting to make notes as I go! I obviously made the right choice.

2- What’s Your Most Embarrassing Moment You’re Willing to Share?
Unfortunately, I have them far too often to recall any one with much clarity! Today for example when I was shooting my next blog post, wearing a t-shirt with boobs on it) my hubby shouted “move your arm, I can’t see your left boob!” As a couple of straight laced oldies walked past….Oopsie!

3- Whats Your Favourite Time of Year or Day and Why?
Year – June as it’s my birthday month, the weather is usually lovely and uni is finished for the summer! Day- possibly the time between lunch and mid afternoon on a Saturday as its cosy and relaxed.

4- How Would You Spend Your Last Day on Earth?
No idea and don’t want to think about it. Would rather just try and enjoy as much as I can all the time!

5- If You Could Meet Anyone Living or Dead, Who Would it be and Why?
It probably changes all the time! Right this second I’d go Khloe K – she’s my fave Kardashian with great style a d I think she could show a gal a good time!

6- Describe Yourself in 3 Words
Fashion. Food. Fun. What else? Hehe

7- When Was the Last Time You Laughed or Cried and What the Reason?
Last night I laughed at a wedding, when a girl I met at the hen party came over to say hi by shouting a memory out from the event (I won’t say what!) the last time I cried was yesterday morning when I thought about how much stuff I have to do between now and the end of the year.

8- If You Had the Courage to do One Thing, What Would it be?
Try and make it as the female Gok Wan when I graduate. I could squeeze bangers just as well as him I reckon.

H9- Who is Your Best Friend?
    My hubby – no question.

10- What’s Your Most Used Website (besides your blogging platform?)
Mail Online. I enjoy reading the latest news and gossip, as well as seeing what the celebs are wearing.

    My Nominees

This was so hard as I just nominated all of my faves for The Lovely Blog award! So I’ve been a bit selfish and picked one to be a double nominiee, but a worthy one! Heather is a ‘returning veteran’ to the blogging scene and is doing so for a reason that’s super personal that’ll hopefully be able to help others, which I’m more than happy to get behind.

    Heather- nosuperhero.wordpress.com

  • BLOGGING/ One Lovely Blog Award

    IMG_7341.JPG

When you’re not have the best week ever – you have an insane amount of work to do and yet, and despite working hard (possibly harder than you’ve ever worked before) you see no finishing line in sight. But then…you get a lovely little tweet saying that a new friend and fellow blogging gal thinks you’re lovely! So thanks Jaye for making me smile at the end of a very busy week. You can check out Jaye’s blog at jayesjournal.com she’s a fellow #hullblogger who’s one of my PIC’s in organising the Hull Bloggers meet in December…eek!

    RULES

    – You must thank the person who nominated you and include a link to their blog.
    – You must list the rules and display the award.
    – You must add 7 facts about yourself
    – You must nominate 10 other bloggers and let them know they’ve been nominated
    – You must display the award logo and be following the blogger who nominated you

    7 Facts About Me

1- I really hope the Zombie apocalypse that was Jaye’s first fact DOESNT happen!!
2- I haven’t passed my driving test….and I’m at a stage where I’m not sure I really want to but feel it may be forced on me for various different reasons.
3- My new fascination is with WWE wrestling. I know it’s weird! I’ve been hooked on watching E!’s Total Divas (which follows some of the WWE girls) since it started a couple of months ago…to the point where, at this stage, I prefer it to KUWTK (ssssshhhhhh…..)
4- Before I started uni (I’m a mature student – well in age, extremely immature in every other way!) I worked as a Mortgage advisor. Ironically my mum asked me for mortgage advice for the first time last week, 3yrs after I quit! Still got a kick out of imparting wisdom to her for once though.
5- As a teenager I walked past Keith Duffy (Boyzone) in Meadowhall and had some kind of teeny bopper meltdown.
6- I’m currently researching my dissertation – it’s going to have a post 9/1, apocalyptic RAPorter meets religion theme to it. If anyone has seen The Leftovers on Sky1, that’s one of the texts I’m using.
7- My number 1 treat food of all time is a Pizza Hut cheesy bites base with margarita and red onion topping. Followed by some sort of cake, sponge or crumble. Boom.

    My Blogger Nominees….

This has been a great year for making new friends, and I whole heartedly include my blogger buddies in this! It’s a pleasure getting to know you all better, reading what you have to say and seeing you rock some seriously awesome styles! I didn’t quite make it to ten, but but nobody’s perfect!

  • FASHION/ (Mid) Weekly Style Round Up

I’m doing things a bit differently this week – there’s been so many looks I liked since my last round up that I thought if I left it until the weekend I may end up with far more than my stylish little eyes could take! So consider this your pre Friday treat to take your mind off the week’s “whatevers” (in my case- essays, presentations, critical commentaries, film screenings and desperately trying to start/finish about 4 novels) who doesn’t love one of those?!?!

    ‘Street’ Style

    IMG_7319.JPG

    IMG_7322.JPG

I put ‘street’ because these lovelies are mainly far more glam but just outside! I’m crushing hard on faux fur Gilets this season as a cosy way to add a bit of texture to an outfit, whether it’s dressy or causal. I like both for different reasons – Lucy’s (which you can buy from Lucy’s Boutique here http://www.lucysboutique.co.uk/collections/jackets/products/esme-gilet?variant=894548791 or Celeb Look’s more affordable version here http://www.celeblook.co.uk/featured-products/white-and-black-faux-fur-gilet.html) as the mix of colours make it extra interesting, whilst Lydia’s black will go with everything and it’s kind of ‘roughed up’ which gives it a tougher edge (available from Bella Sorella here http://www.bellasorella.co.uk/black-fur-gilet) And those boots Lyds….yes!
Kim is a rapper’s wife so is technically more street I guess, but this look is far more Kim K than Kimye and I find it simply elegant and chic. The colour is beautiful for the season, the fine knit is cosy yet still feels typically Kardashian glam. Gorgeous!
Chanelle’s look is ironcally a bit Kanye! I like that it feels relaxed yet tough and fierce – I would definitely wear this but switch out the top for a longer one (I still have more jiggle than smoking hot abs sadly!). I have an urge to buy some Timberlands now! You can pick up similar jeans by Miss Pap here http://www.misspap.co.uk/tracey-black-high-waisted-ripped-jeans.aspx and a cool check shirt from Missguided here http://www.missguided.co.uk/catalog/product/view/id/142811/s/chorley-pink-grid-shirt/category/485/

Too Glam to Give a Damn

    IMG_7320.JPG

    IMG_7321.JPG

It’s getting to the time of year where we’re all going out a bit more and we all want to wear something a little more glitzy – which Chezza, Millie and Beyonce be bringing in spades! I admit Cheryl and Millie’s frocks are probably not what most of us will be wearing out and about but they’re so glamorous and stunning that I needed to include them.
Queen Bey’s look is way more wearable, high street wearable in fact…yes, she’s rocking Top Shop! And it’s still in stock RIGHT NOW!! It’s on the website here http://www.topshop.com/en/tsuk/product/clothing-427/dresses-442/flocked-sequin-bodycon-dress-3468094?bi=1&ps=20 and I’m very excited that it’s also in my local branch, I’m sorely tempted…(if any #hullbloggers wanna come shopping and give me an opinion…??)
Cheryl’s second look is a bit more wearable for us mere mortals – the skater style is super flattering and the cheeky hint of leopard print is a bit of oomph to an LBD.
Rita’s outfit to me is screaming ‘Bloggers Dream’ as I can think of so many who I think would totally own this look! Blue/checks are always a winner with me anyway, I think the top would need to be a shorter/more fitted for me to wear but as of now I’m keenly watching the high street for a more wearable version! Let me know if you see anything.
Even when J- Lo does ‘demure’ (well, for her) she’s still so hot. She’s definitely gotten better and better with age…maybe it’s in the name? Looking at back at some of my old photos I could believe that! Fingers crossed, hehe. I actually think this could look great for daytime as well with a knee boot and a faux fur slung over the top, Oooh….This turquoise colour is too gorgeous though, I want this dress sooooo bad now!! I’ve seen a similar outfit on In The Style by Lauren Pope which a cobalt co-ord, doesn’t sound that similar but when you look you’ll see where I’m coming from http://www.inthestyle.com/by-lauren-pope-blue-roll-neck-co-ord/

    Hot Mamas

    IMG_7318.JPG

This is pregnancy style done very well – both of these ladies were style conscious before bump and see no reason why that should change, and I agree! Swing dresses like Kourtney’s are great for non pregnancy as well, they’re one of my fave styles as they’re so comfy but still stylish. I’ve seen a co-ord in a similar print by ILWF here http://www.inlovewithfashion.com/products/LOVE-Black-And-White-Tweed-High-Neck-Top-With-Zip-Detail.html http://www.inlovewithfashion.com/products/LOVE-Black-And-White-Tweed-Mini-Skirt.html (the style of the skirt may not be one that pregnant ladies like as much for comfort)
Blake looks so cute! Simple, cosy and elegant. Perfect for A/W. You can buy a beautiful Cape from just about anywhere, but as hers is black and red then you can pick up this total bargain from Celeb Look (which I blogged last week in my ‘Snug as a Fashionista in a Blanket Cape’ post) http://www.celeblook.co.uk/womens/women-s-clothing/jumpers-cardigans/red-and-black-blanket-type-cape-womens-tartan-and-checked-pattern.html

So now you see, I couldn’t possibly have kept all of this fashion goodness to myself until Sunday! Hope you enjoyed – let me know which looks are your faves and which ones you’re going to buy.

  • FASHION/ Monochrome and Paisley Crushin’

I was just thinking – I complained for the whole 5yrs of senior school about wearing a black and white uniform because all the other schools had a colour and ours was boring…so it’s pretty weird that monochrome is now my colour palette of choice as an adult! Obviously learnt more than I thought, haha. Paisley however goes in and out of my fickle fashion affections – but when it’s done right like this lil beauty, it never will!

Taken at Little Bird Boutique, Hull

I didn’t want to add ANYTHING to this dress, I just wanted it to be a completely simple look. I wanted the print/mesh panel and my hot pink lips (which you can’t see too well in the shite, but they were HOT!) to do the talking. Definitely a style to add to my ‘go-to’ pile for a cheeky night out! This would also look fabulous dressed down for the daytime – with a cool pair of boots and a sweatshirt/ blanket cape thrown over to keep the chill out. Possibly even a long sleeved white tee underneath? Ooooh now there’s a thought…

I’d love to hear how you’d style this dress up (or see it if you already have it) so do get in touch and tell me!
