  • FASHION/ Weekly Style Round Up

When did November happen? I feel like I’ve been asleep and lost some serious time somewhere – If I replace ‘asleep’ with the phrase ‘buried under a mountain of books whilst being hunched over a desk writing essays’ I think that’s mystery solved! Luckily celeb style is one thing I haven’t been missing out on, so I hope you enjoy my fave looks of the week…

    She Wore Bluuuuuueeeee…….

    IMG_7273-0.JPG

Blue is one of my fave colours (the other is pink. Obviously.) these ladies remind me why! Jenna looks so hot to trot in such a simple outfit- I’m willing to bet a lot of people have similar items in their wardrobe and have no idea how amazing they could look if they put them all together to create this fab dressy-casual yet chic look. If this is you – try it right now! Well, maybe finish reading the post first, but definitely send me a selfie of your efforts 👌😙
I really like boilersuit style all in ones but never tried one myself as I have a feeling they may not like me back…that said Billie has a pretty curvy shape and looks great, so maybe I’m wrong? I’ve seen a similar style at Never Fully Dressed, they’ve sold out of this gorge navy colour but it looks just as good in black https://www.neverfullydressed.co.uk/product/h-jumpsuit-black
There are very few occasions when I don’t like Lucy Meck’s outfit to be honest. As well as it being a beautiful shade of cobalt and foil print which looks really festive going into party season, I really like that this dress is a great bargain from one of my faves AX Paris. Skater is one of my go to shapes as I like the girlyness and that it flatters my waist (but avoids my thighs!) you can buy the exact dress here http://www.axparis.com/products/-Jacquard-Metallic–Kick-Out–Skater-Dress.html

    Bringing Sexy Black (Yeah!)

    IMG_7276.JPG

Hot damn gurls! This was the best pap shot I could get of Charlotte’s frock so hope you can see it’s fabness. Black – classic, intricate neckline – accessories not required. Her exact dress is this one http://www.aqaq.com/product/woman/trapper-black-bodycon-mini-dress?siteID=8_btisdd0hQ-pOQnnC.7_TASEnofLOeHXg but I’ve also seen this one that’s a total steal and is a little more covered up round the chest area if that’s something you prefer http://www.asos.com/Oh-My-Love/Oh-My-Love-Plunge-Bodycon-Dress-with-Strap-Detail/Prod/pgeproduct.aspx?iid=4225777&affId=5497&WT.tsrc=Affiliate
What I adore about Kendal’s look is that I could also wear it despite being a completely different body shape and having several years on her. More to the point, I WILL definitely be rocking something similar very soon I feel! Cosy yet sexy, who knew??
I won’t, however, be attempting Naya’s look – she looks uh-may-zing, but methinks my flesh is a little too jiggly and milky white for this! She’s always fierce and brave with her style which I so admire and appreciate.

    Fright Night

I’ll be honest – not the biggest Halloween nut. Sorry! But I appreciate the effort made with costumes, so I thought I’d be festive and include my fave celeb looks from this year’s crop

    IMG_7267.JPG

Why have you posted a pic of Cara D I hear you ask? Answer – it’s not her, it’s Kate Moss! That’s how cool she’s apparently become – the coolest 90s runway darling is dressing as the pretender to her crown. Shouldn’t it be the other way round?

    IMG_7269.JPG

Rita has given us all a shock by wearing something that could almost be considered demure…eek! Only kidding (ish). Elle Woods rules and even Rita knows she will always be hot, not just right now (bad joke alert, couldn’t help myself!)

    IMG_7266.JPG

How could I NOT like this really?? As with any of her looks, Ri Ri has fully committed to this and I am all in with her!

But this, without a doubt, is my fave…..

  • FASHION/ Snug as a Fashionista in a Blanket Cape

I’ve finally joined the caped crusaders! That statement has made me wonder – if I was a superhero, what would my name be? Right now I’m thinking Fash Gal could be a good way to go?? I kind of feel like this look is a cross between Minnie Mouse and a school girl, maybe sprinkled with a bit of winter Clueless…what a fabulously random combo! I have literally not taken this blanket off since I got it – in the house, out the house, loosely slung over jeans and sweatshirt…but this is my fave way to wear it so far

    Taken at Cottingham train station

I borrowed a tip from my pal Gok (love that guy!) and belted the front to add shape and play with the dimensions, but to be honest I really like it both fitted or loose. I’ve looked at a lot of similar blankets on the high street and this is one of the best quality and (without exception) best value for money. Winner! I don’t think I can pull off over the knee boots so I thought I’d give socks a go as an alternative, I’m glad I did as they kept me warm on a chilly day and look so cute! I just had a simple white shirt on under the blanket (as featured on my Still Clueless? post a few weeks back) to kept it all about the checks and my fab lil coated skater skirt peeking out underneath. I’m so into textures right now and I had a great mix of wool, chiffon, pleather ish and embossed cotton. Awesome autumn outfit.

  • FASHION/ Preppy College Gurl*

As the new semester at uni is now well underway a cute lil student look seems perfect! This is my last look from the Matalan YouTube shoot I took part in back in September – I was really hoping to share it in conjunction with the video going live , but there’s still no formal release date and I reeeaaaaalllllly wanted to show this one! It’s a good mix of casual and quirky, which in my eyes is the perfect student attire. And on the premise, where better to shoot than at places of learning….

Taken at Hull College Drama Dept and Street Life Museum – High Street, Hull
Last collage taken at Matalan Hull Central store, Hull

This is a high waisted pencil skirt, so could be changed up to look a bit more formal for the office (or that graduate interview) as well. It came up a little longer on me than knee length so I rolled it up a bit to style it more casually. I also sized down as the stretchy material and elastic acted waist meant that it has a little more give around my smaller waist (and also why it’s super comfy to sit in lectures all day. Believe me, it’s been tested!) these boots come in black (a matte and a shiny black) as well as the brown, I tried both but settled on the brown as they feel a bit more college-ey somehow. Maybe a bit like the age old stereotype of teachers having leather elbow patches on their tweed jackets? No wonder I can’t get Mr Alice to wear one….

    Sweatshirt – £14 http://www.matalan.co.uk/womens/shop-by-category/tops/s2578608/letter-a-sweater
Scuba Skirt- sold out, still available in some stores
    Boots- £25 http://www.matalan.co.uk/womens/footwear/boots/s2577083/block-heel-hiker-boot

Hope you liked the look as much as I do – get in touch and tell me what you think! Don’t forget to join me over on Depop market while you’re at it.

  • BEAUTY/ Aloooooooooe Vera?

The title is me trying to make a funny…I’m quite the comedian no? No? Ok, moving on…welcome to first real beauty post! I did a cheeky one in the summer about some of the fave bits I currently use, but I haven’t tried anything brand new for a long time. As I’m an ‘all about the fashion’ (occasionally about the food, nom) kind of blogger, anything else needed to really catch my attention.

I’ve been hearing about Forever Living for a while from a few people, so when my friend Natasha offered my the chance to try some of her products I jumped at the chance! All of their products are aloe vera based that I’m told are perfectly safe for children and animals to use as well (I have neither of those to test on at home) which makes sense as aloe is natural and soothing.

    Put to The Test….

    Aloe Vera Jelly

    IMG_7171.JPG

It turns out I needed to test the soothing effects of aloe vera a bit quicker than I expected! I’m incredibly clumsy (this is actually a MAJOR understatement) and burnt my thumb really badly whilst getting dinner out of the oven…clearly in my mind, human skin is as good as a oven glove! Ouchy. After a quick dowse with cold water I put some aloe jelly on and it helped soothe the pain a little, I put some more on after it had been chilling in the fridge and then it felt soooooo much better. I used a little on dry spots of my legs after shaving yesterday too and it hydrated them up a treat before my night out.

    Aloe Jojoba Shampoo and Conditioner

    IMG_7176.JPG

When I want to chill out by having a cheeky pamper at home I really like nice relaxing smells, these two smelt like a cross between a fancy salon and a spa. I was warned before I tried them that they may make my hair feel a bit icky as they’re formulated to remove the silicon build up left in hair by other shampoo brands, but I didn’t find that at all. My hair is a bit dry from my blonde dip dye and it felt lovely and soft when I’d finished. Peachy! Well, aloe-ey.

    Aloe Vera Tooth Gel

    IMG_7173.JPG

I’m really funny about the taste of toothpaste, for some reason a lot of them just don’t seem to react well to my tastebuds and are really disgusting. This tasted a lot like Trebor soft mints, result! And it was still just fresh feeling when I woke up the next morning before breakfast. Yay.

    Aloe Heat Lotion

    IMG_7174.JPG

Since my repping days (which is when Natasha and I met back in ’03, how time flies!) I’ve suffered from occasional unexplained pain in my lower back/knee that is super difficult to shift, so I was desperate to give something new a go that may help. The smell is still quite spa like but as it gets warmer and develops on the skin it becomes a bit antiseptic, but for the light relief it gave whilst it was doing its thang I was fine with that! I’m actually using is again as I type.

There are a LOT more products other than the ones I’ve tried. Check out Nat’s collection!

    IMG_7170.JPG

From weight management to beauty products like these, there’s pretty something everybody would enjoy I reckon. And Christmas is fast approaching, maybe a good time to ask Santa for a new treat?

You can view/buy all of the products (including the ones I used) here https://www.foreverliving.com/retail/entry/Shop.do?store=GBR&language=en&distribID=440500028714

Who else has tried any Forever Living products? Get in touch and let me know how your experiences fared against mine!

  • FASHION/ Styling the City of Culture

I always try to be supportive of local businesses/ventures when I can – it’s so great to see your community thrive and find its own unique niche within the UK. This week, the good city of Hull have been kind enough to return the favour! I was lucky enough to feature in an article about bloggers for the Hull Daily Mail’s Femail section speaking about my passion for what I do and where I hope it may lead me. Typically, I had far too much to say for myself in the interview stages (shocking I know) but I think Danni who wrote the article has done a fabulous job of getting everything in and has been a joy to work with for the past few weeks.

I also discovered that I’m not alone in the Hull blogging scene as I originally thought…it seems there’s a small army of us here on the Humber! Really pleased to find this out and get to know everyone soon (I need to point out that I included the shot of the front page as there’s a teeny pic of me in the top right)

Photos courtesy of the Hull Daily Mail (the one of the lips is a selfie by me)

Did you spot Curious Alice in one of the pics making her press debut? This shoot took place in some quirky and beautiful locations around Hull’s Old Town. I totally forgot this little street even existed – the coloured houses look like they belong in Notting Hill or something! Will definitely be shooting there again soon.

This dress is super slinky feeling and fits really well – I accessorised with a skinny belt but the elasticated waist does the work for you. I had some static/windy weather issues on the day though so walking was a big tricky (obviously there were builders around, not doing any work, to witness my struggle) I should’ve given it a wash first. The jacket you’ll recognise from my post on Tuesday, it’s pure coincidence that it’s ended up on here twice in the same week but it shows I wasn’t joking when I said I wear it to death! The quilted biker boots I wore to keep with the tougher vibe of the jacket, I’m wearing this dress to a hen do at the weekend so I’ll be wearing less sensible footwear (pics will probably be on my social media pages if you fancy sneaking a peek). My lippy is an exact match to the dress – yes it was on purpose, no I’m not sorry!

Jacket – House of CB (also in beige)
Dress – ILWF sold out in purple, different colours available here http://www.inlovewithfashion.com/search.php?search_query=Long+sleeve+wrap+dress and same colour/different style here http://www.inlovewithfashion.com/products/LOVE-Magenta-Pleated-Cold-Shoulder-Dress.html

Boots – Matalan sold out, new season style here http://www.matalan.co.uk/womens/footwear/boots/s2574226/quilted-biker-boot
Bag – River Island http://www.riverisland.com/women/bags–purses/shoulder-bags/Black-fold-over-slouch-bag-648723 also available in more colours and mini
Lip Colour – Collection Work That Colour Lip Butter in Perfect Plum http://www.superdrug.com/Collection/Collection-Work-The-Colour-Lip-Butter/p/256200#.VEggad14WrU

So hopefully now the Hull City of Culture bigwigs will take notice and realise that fashion/style is every bit a part of our city’s culture as the other areas they’re promoting…come on guys! Feel free to tweet @2017Hull and tell them for us too.
